From Rio de Janerio one of Brazils' finest Jazz singers with Afonso Pais (Lisbon) Guitar. Fernanda has toured in Brazil, Canada, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Denmark, France, Malaysia and Argentina . This is her first UK appearance and Swansea is delighted to Welcome her!
Fernanda Cunha is well established singer on today’s Brazilian jazz scene. She started to sing in 1997 in Rio de janeiro, Brazil. Her debut album “O tempo e o lugar” was recorded in USA in 2002. On her CD “Dois Coracoes “(2004), she’s indistinguished company, performing with esteemed Brazilian composers Johnny Alf and Sueli Costa. On her third Cd “Zingaro “(2007) she performs songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Cunha has performed in Canada several times since 2005. Regular appearances at jazz festivals in Canada (Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, Medicine Hat, Calgary, Yukon, among others) have helped to carveout a whole new fan base for Cunha’s post-bossa groove, and in 2009 she repaid the compliment with her fourth CD “Brasil-Canada” Songs represents important songwriters from both countries.
In 2012 she recorded her 5th CD entitled “Coração do Brasil” (Heart of Brazil singing well-known sambas and bossa novas with a new and refreshing interpretation. “Coração do Brasil” was recorded to celebrate Fernanda ́s 15year of career.
In september 2015 she released a new album “Olhos de mar”, the first one featuring only previously unreleased songs written by great songwriters that are still making music in Brazil such as Antonio Adolfo, Cristóvão Bastos, Carlinhos Vergueiro, Daniel Gonzaga, Denilson Santos, Filó Machado, and 2 songs composed by Toronto jazz guitarist Reg Schwager (Born in Netherlands, living in Toronto-Canada) with lyrics by Fernanda. The CD brings Bossa nova, sambas, Brazilian blues and jazz, upbeat songs.
Fernanda is a member of Latin Grammy awards since 2007.

Afonso Pais was born in Lisbon in 1979. In September 1995 he joined the Hot Clube de Jazz School of Portugal to study the guitar as the main instrument. He had for guitar teachers Vasco Agostinho, António Pinto, Mário Delgado and Nuno Ferreira.
In 1996 he began playing with the "Big Villas Band" / Big Band of students and members of the Hot Club), where he remained for two years, acting a bit throughout the country. Also at that time he started to make concerts, especially as a sideman.
It was awarded the highest scholarship awarded in the universe of about 150 participants by the Berklee College of Music. Still in Perugia he made two concerts in a Jazz club with local musicians.
From 1997 he began to make regular concerts, both as a leader and as a sideman, having the opportunity to play with great figures of Portuguese jazz such as João Moreira, Bernardo Moreira, Aldo Caviglia, Nelson Cascais, Rodrigo Gonçalves, Pedro Gonçalves, Nuno Ferreira, Carlos Barretto, Carlo Morena, André Sousa Machado, Gualdino Barros, as well as international musicians like Bart Deefort, Dave Burnette, Esteban Pi Alexis Cuadrado or the pianist Albert Sanz.
He currently teaches at the Jazz Club of the Hot Club of Portugal and at the Madeira Conservatory of Music, maintaining his freelance activity in the professional circuit of Portuguese jazz
