In 2016 he appeared as part of the Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley Back To Jazz Big Band, performing at Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival and Ronnie Scott’s Club. 2017 saw repeat appearances at both venues as part of a big band backing USA trumpet legend Bobby Shew in a programme celebrating the centenary of Dizzy Gillespie’s birth. Andy is also well known as a jazz educator, having taught under the banner of Bristol Jazz Workshops for over a decade. This has led on to tutoring for several jazz summer schools and residential weekends, including CL Jazz, Music For You, Gloucester Academy of Music, Dartington and Falmouth-Yamaha.
Long term associate saxophonist Ben Waghorn is a versatile musician who has worked in London’s West End and on many pop, TV and film recordings. He has been involved in a range of projects with Keith Tippett, including ‘Tapestry’, a piece written by Keith for two saxophone quartets and the BBC singers, the quartet ‘Work in Progress’ and The Keith Tippett Octet. He can also be heard on recordings with Geoff Eales and Dave Stapleton [Slowly Rolling Camera]. Ben has also recently performed with the BBC Big Band and played in Singapore with the London Concert Orchestra. Pianist Jim Blomfield has been a vital part of Bristol’s jazz scene for many years and has accompanied many of the UK’s best known players. He has released two trio CDs of his own compositions. “Jim Blomfield is the best British pianist you've never heard of and is an absolute marvel” – Independent on Sunday. Bassist Chris Jones and drummer Mark Whitlam are also busy with their own project We Are Leif, currently receiving a lot of air-play on Jazz FM. Drummer Toby Perrett is playing for most live gigs in 2019 and is well known for his work with Hammond organist John-Paul Gard.
